Plants to Deter Mosquitoes

As small as they are, mosquitos can prevent you from enjoying the most beautiful day outside. Follow the simple steps below to plant a container garden or in-ground flower bed with plants that can deter these pesky bugs and reclaim your backyard.

Tip

These plants will help deter mosquitoes but will not make your outdoor space mosquito free. Make sure to eliminate any sources of standing water in your landscape.

Select an appropriate pot.

Purchase a high-quality potting soil.

Select mosquito deterrent plants.

Fill container with soil.

Plant selected plants in soil.

Tip

For flower bed:

  1. Select mosquito deterrent plants (see tip above for details)
  2. Amend flower bed with soil conditioner
  3. Plant your selections
  4. Add fertilizer (plant-tone)
  5. Water thoroughly
