Prepping Your Landscape for Spring Planting

Every home landscape needs some attention in the late winter to prepare it for Spring planting and the next growing season. The following activities should be performed in late Winter/early Spring (Mid-Feb. – Mid-March).

Remove dead annuals

Cut back perennials to ground level

Lightly prune shrubs and small trees removing dead, damaged, diseased and deranged branches

Divide perennials that have overgrown areas, plant or give away divisions

Till or turn new planting beds adding compost and/or soil conditioner

Mark with paint spots where new plants will be planted

7

Rake landscape beds removing large debris

8

Add compost/soil conditioner and/or organic fertilizer around plants in landscape beds

Lightly mulch all landscape beds
