Winter Transplanting

Time

Budget

Skill

It’s wintertime, and your houseplants’ survival depends on you. Relocating your houseplant during the colder months is an easy process and can be completed quickly. In just 20 minutes, you can bring the beauty of the outdoors inside to be enjoyed by your family and guests.

1

Tag plants to be transplanted in September with plastic tape/ribbon

2

Transplanting can be done in December, January and February

3

Cut down into the soil with the shovel in a circle around the tree or shrub 12″-3′ from the trunk or growing center, depending on the size of the tree or shrub (see photo)

4

Gently loosen and then pry the root ball out of the soil

5

Try to keep the soil and roots together, and place in the wheelbarrow and transport to new location

6

Dig a hole 6″-12″ wider and deeper than the root ball

7

Plant the plant at the same depth it was previously

Congratulations! You did it! Sit back and enjoy your new lawn addition!
